  • This 20 year old private cardiology practice has well-established referral sources, including more than 120 physicians from Tanner Health Systems, which includes an acute care hospital with 200 plus beds, as well as two smaller primary care hospitals in neighboring communities. Some patients travel to the practice from as far away as East Alabama and from throughout West Georgia.

Carrollton is located approximately 50 miles west of Atlanta and 80 miles east of Birmingham. As a result, the Carrollton area is one of the fastest growing markets in the state of Georgia. This has recently driven demand for the addition of local specialty services to serve the growing population. To meet this demand, Tanner Medical Center Carrollton upgraded its cardiac catheterization/special procedures lab last year adding state-of-the-art digital imaging equipment. Long-term, the goal is to develop an open heart surgery program at the hospital.

Due to the regional coverage of the medical community and its close ties to major employers, there has been only minor penetration of managed care plans into our area. The managed care contracts that are in place were negotiated by a cohesive PHO with generally more favorable terms than you will find in metropolitan Atlanta.

Clinical support and continuing education is enhanced by the fact that Carrollton is within an hour of some of the best tertiary care facilities for cardiovascular disease in the country. There is also access to the medical schools at Emory University (Atlanta) and the University of Alabama-Birmingham. The Georgia Institute of Technology's Department of Biomedical Research is also working on a number of projects related to high-tech treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Of added interest about our community, a new book entitled The 50 Best Small Southern Towns ranks the city of Carrollton as one of the top 50 small towns in the South.
